Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: “I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you—every living creature on earth. I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.” Genesis 9:8-11.
The last sentence of this covenant is imperative to understand what God said. He said He will not destroy the entire earth with a flood but it does not mean floods are not going to happen, even major floods. It’s just these floods won’t be enough to destroy the entire earth because of his Covenant to us but it can still destroy a City. So what does this mean? You will see more massive flooding. Combine bad infrastructure, the new weather pattern, it’s inevitable. As most have seen the weather patterns has change drastically, and it’s increasing more and more. Water moves really fast and no matter how much you know how to swim, flood waters is not the place to test out your swimming skills. It’s hard to prepare for flooding because it does happen really quick but there are great tips online to do so. Here are some quick tips:
Leave: Just leave, grab what you need not what you want and just leave, especially if you live in a flood zone already. Move to higher grounds, not on top of your roof.
Have a Go bag prepared for emergency that you can just grab and go. If you have children make sure they have their own go bag as well. Ladies, you don’t need a bag full of makeup and unnecessary items, only emergency items, flashlight, travel size hygiene products, first aid kit, one set of change of clothes, socks (I even keep socks in my car, I don’t like when my feet is cold 😊 ), sweater or jacket, copies of important documents, solar cell phone charger, water, snacks, etc.
Don’t drive through high/flood water at all. I know people do it all the time only to be stuck in the water, some people are really interesting individuals. Even if you have a SUV, Truck, why risk your car getting stuck or even destroying your vehicle? Believe it or not even a few inches of water can lift your car off the ground.
In your home, put your important things at the highest level you can, for preps items place them in water proof containers, that way even if they are floating around the contents inside won’t be destroy, you can duct tape the top. I saw a video of a women crying about not having anything to eat after a flood. Prepping is important and keeping your preps safe is even more important, and definitely do not put your preps in one location. Moreover, find things in your home you wouldn’t want to be destroy and place them in a water proof container, even if you don’t live in a flood zone. Remember time has change.
Prep items you want to invest in, just in case: Life jacket, floaters, swimming eye goggles, etc., basically anything that can help you stay a float. Even if you can swim you are not going to be swimming with just fishes, there could be cars floating around, metals, etc. stay out of the water as much as possible. Now I like the inflatable boat idea, however, I don’t know if you will have time to inflate it during an emergency, something to thing about.
Lastly, don’t panic! I know easier said the done! You really never know how you are going to react until it actually happens no matter how much you prepare, but don’t panic. Always know God is with you and you can get through anything. “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
