God has provided us so much advice in the bible to draw closer to Him and grow spiritually, all you really have to do is opened your bible and spend time with God. Another way to spiritually grow is fasting and praying. Now today you will find people are making a “diet” out of fasting but that was not what God created it to be. Fasting is more a spiritual thing, now there are physical benefits, so it’s funny how the “world” doesn’t agree with God’s word but takes things from the bible and tries to make their own. Nevertheless, as believers it is important we take time to fast and pray. There were many in the bible that fasted, including the Messiah. Fasting is so important that it took fasting and praying to cast out a spirit of mute in the little boy in Mark 9:14-29. It is obvious in Mark 9:29, the Messiah always fasted and prayed.
There are certain spirits, and strongholds you can’t get out of your life without fasting and praying. The benefits are endless. Fasting and praying are a part of our spiritual life and we want to embrace it and do it. You can choose to fast from one to 40 days; it’s up to what God has placed in your heart. Fasting helps eliminate not just spiritual battles, but mental and physical battles. Fasting brings you to a place you did not think you could be. I know for me personally; it has made me more persistent and perseverant. It also made me realize a lot of things are not a big deal and to trust the process of life, and just submit to God’s will. For you, it can be something more. Nevertheless, if you are going to fast make sure you add prayer because that will bring it all together. Many people struggle with a lot of internal issues, have you consider taking time to fast and pray about it. Fasting does not have to be reserved for just spiritual battles and things happening to you, but you can also fast to have that no distraction time with God.
God desires to be near to us and if you would take the time to seek him, you will see how great God is. Fasting also helps us draw closer to God. It helps to humble ourselves. It helps us to see that we can rely on God’s strength and not our own. With all that is going in the world, these days have been a great time to increase your fasting and praying. You are going to need the wisdom and clarity to live in this “new” world and fasting will help with that. May you be encouraged to seek everything God embraces. May every day draws you near to God so you can receive spiritual blessings, as well as other areas in your life.
“Now, therefore,” says the Lord, “Turn to Me with all your heart, With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.” So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the Lord your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm.” Joel 2:12-13
