I hope that you have been awakening to the “new” world we live in and there is more to come. So many things can happen in our lifetime and it’s important to get and keep your house in order. During difficult times even if “you” are not going through what others are going through things may affect you mentally. Maybe the downward spiral of the economy is making you feel hopeless, lost, and worried about the future. Perhaps seeing so many people struggle with not having basic things saddens you. Many times we can be indirectly affected by what we see, what we hear, and experience. It’s important to take care of your mental health, so how do you do that exactly.

The first thing to understand is that your thought life can rule you. Most people’s issue is not that the thought comes, but that they continuously replay that thought in their mind. If you constantly are focusing on the negatives, you will constantly see it and hear it, which causes you to keep replaying it. Accept what you can’t change. I remember there was something in the past that kept coming to my mind and it was consistent year after year, and I finally say you know what God I can’t change anything that happened, it happened, if it was not supposed to happen it wouldn’t happen, I can’t change it. There are many things we simply cannot control and God will allow it to happen and we must have peace with that. Thinking of the could have, should have, does not change anything. The better thing you can do is learn from it, accept it, and let it go. Don’t allow anything you can’t change to keep replaying in your mind.

Once you understand that, you can start to take care of your mental health, and that is secondly, taking back control. If you let it, your mind can wander and be all over of the place. We operate more in our subconscious mind than we do our conscious mind, an example of this is breathing. When difficulty arrives in your life, in other people’s lives, and in the world, all kinds of thoughts and emotions come to mind. This is where you step in and take control. I won’t tell you to hide or suppress your emotions because that is not healthy the key in taking control is to not let negative thoughts to control your actions. For example, watching the world go into a downward spiral may cause someone anxiety, fear, and hopelessness, you may even cancel plans because of this. Instead of allowing these thoughts and emotions to cancel your plans, make the decision with your actions that you will persevere no matter what. Don’t cancel your plans, keep on pushing through until your plans are realized, that would be taking back control.

Thirdly, focus your thoughts to what is going to make you happy, what is going to benefit you, what is good for you. Philippians 4:8 (AMP) tells us “ Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].”This scripture is a perfect reminder and a great meditation scripture. Focus your thoughts on what is true, God is with you and for you. What is lovely and give you peace, may your peace be still.

I pray that whatever is troubling you, that God give you the strength to not let it overpower you, especially your mind. May he grant you the strength, the peace and the love to feel his presence in your life. May your actions match your thoughts positively. Be Blessed!
