The Danger of an Idle Mind

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect,Romans 12:1-2 (ESV).

There is a saying that an “Idle mind is the devil’s workshop,” and we can see by many people’s activities what kind of mind they possess. I always say you can always tell those who have nothing to do in life, they are always involved in some kind of mischief. That is why I will continue to encourage people to protect their minds, protect your children’s minds because the devil is always looking for whom he may devour, 1 Peter 5:8. The devil is always looking for those souls that can easily be corrupted to do evil and boy oh boy he found many. In proverbs, we see a father and a mother instructing their son about various life situations, such as friendship, the kind of women to stay away from, finances, wisdom, and the things of God. In Proverbs 4:16, it tells us “For they do not sleep unless they have done evil; And their sleep is taken away unless they make someone fall.” They can’t even sleep unless they have engaged in some form of wickedness. Unfortunately, they may be the devil’s puppet but everyone else ends up having to deal with them. But it all started in the mind, most spiritual attacks start in the mind. In the physical, some call it mental illness but for those who are spiritual, we can see these individuals had an open door (sin) in their lives that allows Satan to use them freely.

When you allow your mind to wander and receive all kinds of information, your mind will go in the direction you have accepted it to go. If you receive evil information and have accepted it, your mind will always see evil and most likely engage in evilness. Likewise, if you receive good information, and have accepted that, your mind will engage in good deeds. Even the scriptures understand how powerful the mind is. Philippians 4:8, says “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things”. We also see that if something should come to our mind that is evil and ungodly, we are to bring that thought into captivity. That is to arrest that evil thought not let it overtake your mind freely, 2 Corinthians 10:3-6, “ For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”

Many do not see or understand the importance of protecting their mind, so it’s easy for them to be moved to and fro, Job 1:7 looking to do wickedness not realizing they are also sowing what they shall reap one day. Guard your mind, guard your children’s minds. Anything can have an impression on a child, and they are easily impressed, so it’s important to speak with them and find out their thoughts to help them not enter Satan’s trap. In Proverbs, the father spoke to his son about hanging out with bad friends. So many parents don’t realize how much their children’s friends can influence them. There are many children whose “friends” lead them to their death. It’s important to examine who your child is talking to and hanging out with. Look into their activities, what are they engaged with, and what groups they are part of. Why do they easily fall for doing what is bad and wicked? If their behavior has changed don’t ignore it, speak with them. Often parents like to downplay their children’s behavior but by doing so, you are just allowing Satan to have more control over them and eventually, you will lose them to him at the end.

Nothing good from being unaware of your surroundings, or your mind. We are surrounded by wickedness, many in demonic spiritual forms that cannot be seen with physical eyes by some. Some children killed their parents and others. Many do not even see the devil roaming in their own home with them and so they are oblivious to the changes their children are going through. Love is not ignoring, love is enquiring.
