Is This a Necessary Evil?

, ,

What is evil in the first place? Evil is often defined as something immortal, wicked, and even someone characterize having a bad character that harm others. Some may argue evil is necessary sometimes to achieve a certain result or even to teach the difference between good and bad. And lastly evil could mean many things in the eyes of humankind.

Some may view the simplest actions as evil while others prefer something more extreme to occur to consider it evil. What does the bible say about evil? At first glance we find that is it an unwanted character trait, something that destroys the soul at the end, it’s against God’s will, it will lead you to hell, evil is something to turn away from and overcome. However, as we dig deeper, we can find stories of God instructing others to do things, that may see “evil” in the eyes of mankind.

Is evil necessary sometimes? I believe few in this world argue “yes” but it is depending on the circumstances, while others feel no matter the circumstances it is not necessary and should never be someone’s character trait. This is one of the topics that you will never get an answer for, just as many things in life. For example, for those who believe that no matter the circumstances evil should never be, however, place them in a position where their life or the people they love life is in danger, and you will find the answer will change.

See evil in the eyes of the beholder can be necessary when it benefits them or protects them in some way, regardless of the harm to the other party, and when you look closely it’s usually based on some selfish motive not for the greater good. Justifying evil for the greater good is equally selfish, because you must ask, who is the “greater good” those who mankind chooses to see as “good”?

Some may find this as a dilemma, I on the other hand see things in a different perspective and that is as I study humanity’s behavior and thoughts a great part of their being is based on self, and self-preservation. Most people in this world actions have nothing to do with others. Evil is necessary when it affects others and evil is bad when it affects them. Over and over as I try to understand things, Selfishness keeps popping up. Mankind is mostly concern with self and will often use or pretend to support others as long as they are going to get something out of it. So, for them if that is evil then it is necessary.

Romans 12:21 says, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good”. I would say in order to do that humanity must overcome the evil within themselves first before that can overcome evil in others, otherwise evil will always be necessary in the eyes of the beholder.
