Understanding Spiritual Compatibility

As you begin to take the necessary time to spiritually grow the things you were once more tolerate of, you start to become less tolerate of because you don’t want any interference with your spiritual growth. You will have many spiritual interference in your walk with God, however the more you experienced the better your response will be. If you ever been around people who are on a “spiritual journey” you will notice they will start to distance themselves from others. They will often walk away from negativity and are more mindful on what they allow their energy to be use for. This is a similar experience to growing spiritually in the things of God, your spirit will not want to be around any type of negativity, whether it’s hearing it, seeing it, watching it, things starts to turn you off. I have had times I see some nonsense on the television and I just completely just turned off the television. I didn’t even want to hear the sound of the television on because of the negativity of what was going on at the time.

Your spiritual life matters and you will start to see how much when your actions start to line up with your beliefs. What is spiritual compatibility? You will often find topics on love compatibility, personality compatibility but not so much on spiritual compatibility even though your spiritual life is a big part in your decision-making. Spiritual compatibility is simply being compatible with others spiritually, in your values and your beliefs. For those who are looking for a martial partner spiritual compatibility become upmost important in your life because the person who you end up with will be your life partner and the person you create each other’s generation line. So it is important for you to make sure spiritually you both are compatible, because if you cannot agree on basic spiritual truth how are you going to raise your children?

For some people, including me, not being spiritually compatible is a deal breaker. When you understand the importance of your relationship with God, a person looks, status, money, material possessions all means nothing. A lot of people bank on their “looks” but guess what those who are bless to get older will age and most likely you will not look the same, so if someone only married you for your looks eventually they are going to lose interest in you when you start to age or God forbid you have an accident. Spiritual compatibility is not based on how pretty or handsome someone looks, it’s not about how much money they have or don’t have. It’s about a connection only God can join together regardless of any outside circumstances. When you get with someone for the right reasons, the success rate for your marriage will increase and spiritually compatibility is key to that success. Being spiritual compatible will be the glue that hold you together. We all heard the saying “A family that prays together, stays together” and this is true! When you are in a relationship, there will be up and downs but what do you both have that will keep you both going on strong? If it’s your spiritual compatibility then you both understand that God is in control and if you both trust and lean on God then things will work out.

When you find someone who is spiritual compatible conversations are easy and flowing, you both have an understanding on spiritual matters and help each other grow more. You can encourage each other on the things of God. It’s important no matter who you want to be with that God comes first and is the source of your final decision. A lot of things “look” good but may not be good for you. In order to make sound spiritual decisions, you must recognize where you are at in your life spiritually and what you are not willing to compromise.

I must also point out just because someone is also a “believer” does not automatic make them spiritually compatible with you. This is where you rely on the Holy Spirit, discernment, and wisdom to make the right decision. People pretend well and some just simply don’t have the same beliefs as you do although they consider themselves “believers” of God.” You have to trust your intuition (The Holy Spirit promptings) before you get yourself into a lifelong mess.

Some things that can occur when you are NOT Spiritual Compatible (*Not an exclusive list)

  • Prayer time became a “one woman or one man” thing instead of family prayer.
  • The believer tends to compromise more to satisfy partner, or agreed with the other even when it goes against their spiritual beliefs.
  • One partner tends to be nonchalant about spiritual matters, spiritual attacks, and not able to grow spiritually.
  • One or both have one foot in the world and one in the church
  • One or both do not want to stop/let go of sin or think it’s okay
  • One partner love the world or refuses to let go of worldly thinking and actions.
  • Spiritual conversations are nonexistence because one partner does not understand spiritual things.
  • One partner tends to rely more on outside sources for help, advice, and solutions rather than seek God first putting the believer in a bind.
  • Other areas of compatibility start to be negatively affected.
  • When problems arise, one is quick to leave, be bitter, abusive, unforgiving and resentful.

Some things that can occur when you ARE Spiritual Compatible (*Not an exclusive list)

  • There is a sense of togetherness, feels like you are twins.  Don’t have to do much or say much, both have a sense of each other needs.
  • Both are protective of each other, both do not seek to hurt the other.
  • Both help one another not to compromise with the things of this world.
  • Both are able to help each other in all areas of their lives (mentally, physically, financially, etc.,).
  • Spiritual conversations are enjoyable and understandable.
  • There is a connection that surpasses physical looks.
  • Both can sense when the other is not feeling well, not in the mood, or something is wrong.
  • Both have mature conversations about the world and the things of God, and understand the difference.
  • Both are quick to forgive, understand and learn from their experiences with each other.
  • Both enjoy spiritual learning and growing.
  • Both put God first with their actions not just with their words.

Scripture Meditation

“Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?” -2 Corinthians 6:14

“Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.” -1 Peter 3:7 (ESV)

“You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.” -Matthew 7:16-20 (ESV)

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.” -1 John 4:1

“Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.” – 1 Corinthians 15:33 (ESV)

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,” – 1 Corinthians 6:19

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” –Genesis 2:24

One response to “Understanding Spiritual Compatibility ”

  1. […] If so, I want to encourage you before you get into another relationship, ask God first, how does he feel about it? Is this the right person? Ask God is this person “My God-ordained spouse?” Sometimes we get hurt by the very person we had no business allowing in our life. God has someone special just for you! Don’t be so quick to jump into relationships, pause for a second and inquire with God. Put God first place in your heart and your decisions and He will always put your desires first as well. Your heart will always be first place in God’s hands, give it to him.  Want more on Relationships? Understanding Spiritual Compatibility  […]
