You must understand when you don’t physically feel good every other area in your life becomes a struggle. That is why I encourage you as you grow spiritually make sure to take care of your health! The current situation with the Coronavirus is not going to be the last time you hear of a global virus, there is more to come, so it’s important to identify ways to keep yourself and your family healthy. One way is to keep your stress level low. Understand that having too much stress in your life can affect your health in a terrible way. Stress can come from many different sources, sometimes even from happy occasions such as getting married, having a baby, etc. Regardless of the source too much of it is not good. Too much stress can cause a heart attack, anxiety, nervousness, raise your blood pressure, and so many other unhealthy issues. * Disclaimer: None of these tips are medical advice, nor should be taken as such. If you are having an emergency please consult with a medical professional.

Tip Number One: Pick Your Battles

Pick your battles and don’t make things bigger than they are. We all do this, take something small that can be resolved fairly quickly, and make a big thing about it. In life, you have to learn to pick your battles and not everything is worth a fight. Every time you find yourself about to blow up over something that doesn’t require that kind of emotion, calm yourself down before you do. Making things bigger than they are is just added unnecessary stress on yourself and others. The beginning of strife is like letting out water, so quit before the quarrel breaks out.” Proverbs 17:14

Tip Number Two: Change Your Environment

Most stressful situations either come from your home life, your career, relationships, and even your children. However, your living environment can cause stress as well. Most people get the “winter blues” once the weather changes, so it’s important those times to change your environment, go on a mini-vacation to a summery place. If you live in a chaotic environment with high crime, that can be stressful as well and you may need to consider what impact it is really having on your health. If you are always worried something will happen to you or your family, that’s just adding stress to your life and you may want to consider finding a better environment for yourself and your family. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

Tip Number Three: Stay Away From Negativity

Sometimes people don’t realize how stressful negativity can be. Just listening to it, irritates me, and I can only imagine the amount of energy needed to always be negative. No matter where and what the negativity is, just stay away. Stay away from constantly looking at negative things, negative news, negative Nancy’s, listening to it, it is really not healthy. Stay away from people who constantly think and speak negatively, gossiping about others, constantly pointing fingers at others. Life already has its challenges; you don’t need anyone adding more for you to your life. Avoid negative and childish disputes with people. Always engaging in negatively often brings anxiety, worry, and stress to your life, unnecessary. “ Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8

Tip Number Four: Create Boundaries

Most of the things or the people who stress us out are often because we didn’t create a boundary. Even at home have some “downtime” and create boundaries so you can do so, even if it’s for 5 minutes. And speak up as well when your boundaries are not being respected. The key to creating boundaries is to train others to respect them! There is a saying “people will treat you how you allow them to treat you.” People can be a great source of stress in our lives but we need them, and to keep them around and have peace you are going to have to create boundaries. Time alone is imperative to your wellbeing. “Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone,”Matthew 14:22-23

Tip Number Five: Learn to Live a Balanced Life

Nothing causes more stress than making commitments you don’t have time for. Sometimes you really have to say “no” or let go of commitments, plans, etc., When you try to schedule your entire day with activities every single day you become busy, not productive and it will eventually take a toll on you physically, especially if you have to travel to engagements. Learn to not put more on your plate than you can chew. The same goes for your financial, dealings, don’t add more bills to your expenses, money issues is another big stressor. Instead of adding commitments to your schedule, schedule time for yourself and your health. Schedule time to exercise, go to the spa, enjoy a quiet day, go to the park, go bike riding, etc. “Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.” 3 John 2.

These are just a few tips to help keep you focus and your stress level low. Hopefully, you didn’t forget I was going to give you a secret! My secret to keeping my stress level low is staying away from CRAZY people! Hopefully, that made you laugh, because laughter is my real secret. Find something to smile about! “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” Proverbs 17:22

  1. […] Understand that anxiety, stress, fear and worry can all weaken your immune system. You do not have to allow yourself to constantly be listening to negative, discouraging information. Create a schedule where you can have at least 20 minutes for yourself, no distractions, phones, internet, but can sit still and quiet and calm your mind. This will make a world of difference in your mental health when you can tap into inner peace.  The most important thing you can protect is your health, money can come and go and when you don’t feel well, having the energy to pray may not be there, so take care of your health. Let go of past resentments, and issues. Did you know issues of the past, is one of the reasons many don’t really receive full healing? Just let it go, it happened, you can’t re-do the situation and replaying it in your mind is not healthy either.  You can’t live “your best life” when you are holding on to unforgiveness, bitterness, resentment, hatred, etc. Every time you are going to replay the issues of the past, ask yourself is this making me healthier physically, spiritually and mentally? And that is with many things in life. If something, a habit, a thought is not making you better just don’t do it because it’s not worth it. Your health is your wealth.  Previous blog on stress: Tips to Keeping Your Stress Level Low […]
