There are some biblical individuals that often get skipped over, that is why I am a proponent of reading the bible for yourself! There are so many individuals and experiences we can learn from in the bible, not just the often spoken about people such as Moses, Joseph, and Abraham. If you didn’t know who Asa was, he was the son of Abijah, you can get a full background of the story in 2 Chronicles 13. Asa ended up reigning over Judah after his father passed away. The teaching moment here is the relationship he had with God. Because he made a commitment to serve God with all his heart, mind, and soul, God allowed him to have peace and rest during the years he reigned. Now he did have one group of people that tried to come up against him but God allowed Asa to win that battle because Asa sought for God in all things.

What Can We Learn? A lot of people are seeking for some normalcy, peace, peace from within, peace with others, peace in the world but true peace can only come from God. Beware of those who promise you false world peace, they have their own agendas they are working on. Understand the scriptures, peace can only come from God and if many will just turn to Him, seek after him and his ways, we can experience true peace on earth.

How Did Asa Receive This Peace? He did what was good in God’s sight, 2 Chronicles 14:2. Are you doing what is good in God’s sight? Examine yourself and life. You have to get in the word (the bible) in order to know how God wants you to live. Open that good ole book! Stop following the world’s ways where they are calling good evil and evil good.

He took away ALL idols in the land, and high places, 2 Chronicles 14:3. Some of you may not have a golden calf you are idolizing but are you in idolizing people, your pastors, celebrities, politicians, or a certain lifestyle, have foreign objects in your home. We all have something that doesn’t belong in our life, find it and remove it.

He commanded the people of Judah to seek God and follow God’s commandments, 2 Chronicles 14:4. Many take for granted when people are telling them to seek God, draw closer to God, wake up, beware, prepare and so many are still in search mode, looking for something they can never find in themselves or in this world, turn back to God. Looking for peace in the government, politicians, money, worldly things, organizations will cause you to stay in search mode. Seek God and follow his ways.

I don’t know your particular situation, but if it’s peace you are seeking, it can only be found in God. Examine yourself as scripture tells us, and reason with God so that you may finally obtain peace in your heart, mind, soul, and situations, “Let us search out and examine our ways, And turn back to the Lord;” Lamentations 3:40. The story with Asa is just one example, there are many examples God has cause others to stand down, even your enemies will be at peace with you, ”When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him,” Proverbs 16:7. But there is a requirement, and that is to follow God’s ways and word. May Peace Be With You!

2 Chronicles 14“So Abijah rested with his fathers, and they buried him in the City of David. Then Asa his son reigned in his place. In his days the land was quiet for ten years. Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God, for he removed the altars of the foreign gods and the high places, and broke down the sacred pillars and cut down the wooden images. He commanded Judah to seek the Lord God of their fathers, and to observe the law and the commandment. He also removed the high places and the incense altars from all the cities of Judah, and the kingdom was quiet under him. And he built fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest; he had no war in those years, because the Lord had given him rest. Therefore he said to Judah, “Let us build these cities and make walls around them, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us, because we have sought the Lord our God; we have sought Him, and He has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered. And Asa had an army of three hundred thousand from Judah who carried shields and spears, and from Benjamin two hundred and eighty thousand men who carried shields and drew bows; all these were mighty men of valor. Then Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million men and three hundred chariots, and he came to Mareshah. So Asa went out against him, and they set the troops in battle array in the Valley of Zephathah at Mareshah. And Asa cried out to the Lord his God, and said, “Lord, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us, O Lord our God, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go against this multitude. O Lord, You are our God; do not let man prevail against You!” So the Lord struck the Ethiopians before Asa and Judah, and the Ethiopians fled. And Asa and the people who were with him pursued them to Gerar. So the Ethiopians were overthrown, and they could not recover, for they were broken before the Lord and His army. And they carried away very much spoil. Then they defeated all the cities around Gerar, for the fear of the Lord came upon them; and they plundered all the cities, for there was exceedingly much spoil in them. They also attacked the livestock enclosures, and carried off sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
