Although May is Mental Health month, mental health should be something you want to practice every day -that is why it is important to have a strong spiritual foundation, it’s not a mistake that the Messiah tells us “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest,” in Matthew 11:28. Many times when you are going through something, you are tempted to find a solution yourself, through worldly methods and often for many turning to God is a last resort. I encourage you no matter what “you” think you can handle always without hesitation turn to God. God can and will guide you to a better method then you or the world method can think of, Proverbs 3:5-8.
Sometimes you may think you are the only one going through something, but be encourage you are not alone and others before you went through difficult times as well. We can find many examples in the bible of many men and women of God who went through difficult times that may have mentality affected them as well. In reading their journey, one thing I notice and that was consistent with them was that they knew when to turn to God. David is notorious for crying out to God with everything he was going through and throughout Psalms; you can tell he went through a lot, physically and mentally and yes some he brought upon himself. Look at Psalm 17:1-14 “In thee, O Yahweh, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness. Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me. For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me. Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength. Into thine hand I commit my spirit Yahweh. I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities; And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room. Have mercy upon me, O God, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly. For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed. I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me. I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel. For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life. But I trusted in thee, O Yahweh: I said, Thou art my God.” He said his life is spent with grief, how many of you have been grieving for years, or you feel you could never get a break? See, you are not alone and there is a solution for everything under the sun and God is your best helper.

Three Keys to Staying Mentally Healthy Throughout Life
Turn to God– You cannot handle it, just admit it, and turn to God for help. You turn to God by submitting your life, mind, and heart to him and stay consistent in prayer daily. Seeking God daily. We were never meant to walk and live this life alone; God is with you, so allow him to guide your walk on earth. Change the way you start your morning, and start and end the day with God. Most importantly be genuine in your relationship with God, he is not a chore or a routine. God knows whose hearts are from him, and he knows whose just not into him. If you want to see God presence in your life, be genuine. Philippians 4:6-7 “ do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in the Messiah.
Take a break from Social Media/T.V./ Cell Phone– During difficult times the stress level and worry level is high, you are constantly being updated with negative information and it is not going to change. Some people are constantly on social media doing whatever; give your eyes, ears, mind, and heart a break. Commit to not being online for 24 hours per week and you can increase the days if you like. I promise you, you not missing anything! So many live on the internet, they wake up –internet, all day-internet, at work-internet, going to bed-internet. Before the internet came about people actually went outside, spent time in the park, read a book, study your bible, take an art class, cooking class, etc. Your life is not limited to being on the internet. Turn off the television. Put the phone on off. Go ride a bike, go skating, learn to cook, start a garden, try a new hobby, make a commitment to do something active and physical outside of the internet at least once per week. Psalm 119:37 “Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways.”
Focus on Positive things– Our thoughts can rule, ruin, and run our lives. You have to learn to take control of your thoughts, especially when it’s venturing off to something negative. When a negative thought come to mind, tell yourself you will not focus on the negative and pick something positive to think about and meditate on this positivity until you forget that negative thought. You have to consistently keep during this for it to work. When a negative thought comes, train yourself to not to entertain it. Philippians 4:8 : Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” How you react to things it’s what is going to determine whether you have a dull day or a happy day. Even in trouble, and difficulties there is always something to be thankful and grateful for.
Understand that throughout life will you encounter difficulties some small, some big, but never give up, don’t lose faith but trust, and turn to God. Keep hope alive and seek for the peace of God, which surpassing all understanding. Always seek to have peace in your life and home.
