Do You Have a Heart For God?

David was a man of God that God loved very much, even when David made mistakes, and sinned God still loved David, BUT God never tolerated, nor supported any of David sins, in fact David learn a grave consequence for one of his sins when he lost his son, read 2 Samuel chapter 11 & 12. Many people keep confusing love and tolerance; those are two different words with two different meanings. As a believer we are not supposed to love or tolerant sin, nor take part in it, or embrace it, and many believers do this and many so-called pastors, leaders, elders do this as well. They love to quote love scriptures but never mention scriptures where God calls certain sins an abomination, or to hate evil. Some will quickly quote 1 Peter 4:8 โ€œAnd above all things have fervent love for one another, for โ€œlove will cover a multitude of sins,โ€ and forget Proverbs 28:13 โ€œHe who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.โ€ 1 Peter 4:8 doesnโ€™t mean to tolerate sin, but the love shown to someone in sin will make them come into repentance of their sin. God forgave David because David confessed and repented of his sins! Psalms 32.

Then Yahweh sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, and said to him: โ€œThere were two men in one city, one rich and the other poor. The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds. But the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished; and it grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food and drank from his own cup and lay in his bosom; and it was like a daughter to him. And a traveler came to the rich man, who refused to take from his own flock and from his own herd to prepare one for the wayfaring man who had come to him; but he took the poor manโ€™s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.โ€ So Davidโ€™s anger was greatly aroused against the man, and he said to Nathan, โ€œAs Yahweh lives, the man who has done this shall surely die! And he shall restore fourfold for the lamb, because he did this thing and because he had no pity.โ€ Then Nathan said to David, โ€œYou are the man! Thus says the God of Israel: โ€˜I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. I gave you your masterโ€™s house and your masterโ€™s wives into your keeping, and gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if that had been too little, I also would have given you much more! Why have you despised the commandment of Yahweh, to do evil in His sight? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword; you have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the people of Ammon. Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.โ€™ Thus says Yahweh: โ€˜Behold, I will raise up adversity against you from your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun. For you did It secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, before the sun.โ€™ โ€So David said to Nathan, โ€œI have sinned against Yahwehโ€ And Nathan said to David, โ€œYahweh also has put away your sin; you shall not die. However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the enemies of Yahweh to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you shall surely die.โ€ Then Nathan departed to his house, 2 Samuel 12:1-14.

Although, God forgave David, Davidโ€™s sin still had consequences. God stilled called David a man after his own heart because no matter what David did, he knew at the end of the day to follow God, and do what is right in Godโ€™s eyes, โ€œAnd when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, โ€˜I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will,โ€ Acts 13:22. As you grow in things of God you must realize you will have many choices in front of you, what you want, what the world wants you to want, and what God wants, do you have the heart for God and the things of God?

Living a life for God is not an easy walk in this world. Scripture warns us in Matthew 24:12, โ€œAnd because of lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.โ€ There will be many whose hearts will grow cold against God and the things of God. Many will want to stay in their sin and completely turn away from God, and the world will support them in it. That is why itโ€™s important to not place your trust in false foundations, such as this world. People all around you are going to sin and are lawless, and the only way to stay strong and not be moved by what is going on is to have a heart for God. Do what God called you to do, and that is to live for him, Matthew 16: 24-27. Stop living to please people while you ignore God or be disobedient to his word. As believers, you have to make a stand, even if you are standing alone to choose God no matter what. When you read Psalms, you will see David desired God and loved God. He prayed for God to lead him into righteousness, into truth, to teach him, and even to create in him a clean heart, Psalm 51:10. God commands us to love him with all our hearts, mind, and soul. David was not a perfect man, he made mistakes, and we all do, but at some point in your life your desire for God should outweigh the desire to sin, embrace it, take part in it or tolerate it, โ€œDo not be deceived: โ€œEvil company corrupts good habits.โ€ 1 Corinthians 15:33. May your desire to draw closer to God enrich your spiritual life and you get an understanding of what God wants from you. May your heart grow in love for God and the things of God.

Scripture Meditations

โ€œBlessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God,โ€ Matthew 5:8

โ€œHe who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him, โ€œJohn 14:21

โ€œ By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. 1 John 5:2-3

โ€œThen I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them. Ezekiel 36:25-27

โ€œWho may ascend into the hill of Yahweh? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive blessing from Yahweh, And righteousness from the God of his salvation, Psalm 24:3-5

โ€œAnd to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, โ€˜These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: โ€œI know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, โ€˜I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothingโ€™โ€”and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and nakedโ€” I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent, Revelation 3:14-19

โ€œAnd do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God,โ€ Romans 12:2

โ€œPreach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all long suffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables, 2 Timothy 4:2-4
