“As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly, “ Proverbs 26:11
Are you someone God has delivered from sin or some crazy situation? You repented and were making a 180-degree turn away from your sin, only to find yourself back to it. Did you know when you go back to sin or a situation that God deliver you from you are behaving like a dog who returned to its own vomit. Imagine you threw up and went to your own vomit to lick it. I am sure that was a disgusting image but that is exactly what you are doing when you return to your sin. Sin is the vomit that you are licking. Never take lightly when God is correcting you, has delivered you. Some people behave as if they will live forever, and will always have a chance to repent and do better, but guess what, tomorrow is not promise to anyone. What if today was your last chance to get right with God? Many think that because God is love he is not going to deal with them harshly, but there is a hell for reason. If everyone was going to Heaven, God would not have created a Lake of Fire, Revelation 20:15, read your bible.
Understand this, God wants all of us to do better and follow him, his ways, his word and he does show us grace but stop taking it for granted because God has given you many chances to get right with him. Many foolishly have lost their lives for returning to their own vomit. This vomit can be an abusive relationship, sin, drugs, alcohol, sexual perversion, adultery, revellings, back to committing crimes, etc. If you want to serve God, live for God, then walk that walk. Stop taking the chances God has given you to sin, He may just be testing you to see your heart. As scripture tells us, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also,” Matthew 6:21. What you continue to do that is the opposite of God’s word and will is what you truly treasure and hold dear to your heart. You may say ”this is not true, you love God”, but your actions speak louder than words. Look closely at your life and examine your heart, your words, your actions. May you be truthful with yourself and repent and turn back to God.
Prayer: God reveal to me my heart so that I may walk in your ways. Teach me the path of righteousness and holiness. Correct me when I’m wrong. Humble me so that I may seek wisdom and understanding. Show me your will God and let the devil fall into the trap he has set for me, while I escape. Help me to conquer every temptation that comes against me and your will for my life.
Scripture Meditation: Psalm 51
“Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight— That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge. Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me. Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me hear joy and gladness, That the bones You have broken may rejoice. Hide Your face from my sins, And blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners shall be converted to You. Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, The God of my salvation, And my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, And my mouth shall show forth Your praise. For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart— These, O God, You will not despise. Do good in Your good pleasure to Zion; Build the walls of Jerusalem. Then You shall be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, With burnt offering and whole burnt offering; Then they shall offer bulls on Your altar.”
