There is no argument that there is an evil spirit lurking and operating in this world. What many people don’t realize is that a demonic spirit needs an entry point to operate in the physical realm. When you see someone commit a hideous crime, or are constantly doing evil things and are demonic, that is a spirit that is in them. Some people still refuse to acknowledge that demons exist and they exist in people. Not every story you hear someone committing an evil crime or doing something evil that the person is “crazy” or has a “mental illness” no the majority of them are demon-possessed. In order for a demonic spirit to come into your physical body and cause you to act out, they need an entry point, they need a host who will cater to them. “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.” Matthew 12:43-45.
So how they actually come into a person? We can go back to this scripture, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9. What you allow to rest in your heart will eventually manifest. Some people seem to have a natural sinister nature. They are always happy when something bad happens to someone, even when it leads to death. They are often celebrating, promoting, defending, or embracing wicked people and evil things. They go out of their way to hurt others. They participate in others’ wickedness. That is something in them that goes right back to their own hearts, Isaiah 5:20, Proverbs 2:14., Genesis 6:5, Mark 7:21-22. A lot of people are just plain wicked, there’s nothing wrong with them mentally. God has his people and Satan has his people, get that through your head, John 8:44, 1 John 3:8-10, Matthew 12:34-35. The world will call these types of people everything else but what they truly are -demonic.
When I was in graduate school studying psychology, I had to do so what they called “criminal profiling” for my forensic courses. That is basically analyzing certain characteristics that most criminals often have. We can do the same here spiritually. Here are some common demonic characteristic traits that are often in people who end up committing an actual evil crime and/or doing wickedness:
There’s usually a form of Jealousy present in them, even over little things. It was the spirit of jealousy and envy that caused Joseph’s brothers to plot to kill him, Genesis 37. “What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you? You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure, James 4:1-3 (NLT).
Envy, sometimes leading them to be so competitive with people that it can turn deadly. “For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.” James 3:16 (NIV).
Hatred, they often are quick to hate others, even those they don’t even know. “He who hates, disguises it with his lips, And lays up deceit within himself; When he speaks kindly, do not believe him, For there are seven abominations in his heart; Though his hatred is covered by deceit, His wickedness will be revealed before the assembly.” Proverbs 26:24-26.
Greed, the love of money have often been a downfall for many people and it still is, causing many to sell their souls, steal, commit fraud, and even rob people. “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” 1 Timothy 6:10. See also 1 Timothy 6:9, Ecclesiastes 5:10, 2 Peter 2:3, Proverbs 15:27, Proverbs 28:25.
Lust, lust in itself is a spirit and many times some are so full of lust, they do the most wickedness they can do with their bodies and with others. “Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,” 1 Peter 2:11.
Always Angry, I have yet to see anything good happen with angry people, some go so far as to murder others. Nothing good ever came out of anger. “Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.” Psalm 37:8 (NIV).
As you can see, all these demonic characteristic traits lead to some form of evil and wickedness. I’m pretty sure you can find people like this in your circle, some may have all the traits. I’m not saying they will end up a certain way, but if they don’t repent and let these demonic traits go, they will eventually end up in a bad situation and demon-possessed. These traits are the perfect environment for a demonic spirit to thrive and once they take a hold of someone, it will be a battle for them to leave. It is not enough to just pray for these people, but that demonic spirit in them will need to be cast out, just as the Messiah did. “Then one was brought to Him who was demon-possessed, blind and mute; and He healed him, so that the blind and mute man both spoke and saw. And all the multitudes were amazed and said, “Could this be the Son of David?” Now when the Pharisees heard it they said, “This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.” But Yahshua knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you. Or how can one enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? “ Matthew 12:22-29. See also Mark 1:21-27.
As believers, where the Holy Spirit dwells evil cannot reside, we chose a different walk in life therefore our character must line up, The fear of the Lord leads to life, And he who has it will abide in satisfaction; He will not be visited with evil, Proverbs 19:23. See also Psalm 5:4, James 1:13,. Will, there be days where you are angry, yes, but scripture also tells us “be angry sin not”, Ephesians 4:26. Even in your anger, you have a stopping point but it’s not so for the demonically possessed person, they will take it as far as they can. Demonic people are dangerous even if it’s someone you know. As believers instead of trying to be quick to label them as “mentally ill” or trying to find a reason why they harm someone, to defend what evil has occurred, exam their characteristics carefully and called them for what they are demonically possessed, Ephesians 6:10-12, 1 John 3:8, 1 Peter 5:8, 2 Corinthians 11:14-15, John 3:20, Proverbs 21:10.
I hope this has been enlightened for you. I know the spiritual realm and spiritual things can be difficult to understand or even accepts sometimes. However, I believe if you keep seeking God to open your spiritual eyes, he will do so and then everything in this world will start to make sense.
