“ Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to the Messiah,” Colossians 2:8

This walk with God is more than church attendance, more than praying every day, even more than reading your bible, this walk also involves us having a discern spirit concerning all things. Discernment involves deciphering information. As believers we will see more false signs more than anything just to distract you from the truth. People will present false hope, false words, false signs to you and we are warned about this in scripture. It’s important not to see things or hear certain messages and assume it’s a sign of prophecy.  Many things in the world are very deceptive, and many are looking for “signs,” especially when it comes to prophecy. We have to pay attention to the source of these “signs,” how and why it’s really being brought up. They are more deceiver in this world than they are truth tellers. As believers you don’t want to be caught up following the wrong signs.

We are reminded in Matthew 24:24, “For false Christ’s and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.” If possible even those who love God, profess God, follow God can be deceive. We also see in Revelation where many were deceived into submitting to evilness of receiving the mark of the beast and worshipping it. Here are some keys in not falling for false signs:

Don’t rely on your own understanding. It’s easy to come up with a theory based on your own understanding, but spiritual matters are not that simple. We need God to reveal true meaning of things, and signs to us. Remember that Satan can appear as an Angel of light, will you be able to recognize this on your own? Proverbs 2:2-5; Proverbs 3:5; Job 28:28; 1 Corinthians 2:12.

Listen Carefully & Look Closely. The amount of people who response without even listening and gathering all the facts is alarming. A lot of people in this world have a listening problem, most people are quick to speak, give their opinions on matters they don’t even have all the information about, that is not what makes you wise. Many will miss God’s voice because of this problem. God speaks with us through our spirit and you will need to someone who can listen carefully to understand what is being reveal to you. Also look closely at what information is being presented, and by whom. Some are Satan workers putting out false information, false prophecy, false signs. Are you paying attention?. Proverbs 17:28; Proverbs 18:13; Luke 11:28; Matthew 11:15; Proverbs 1:5; Ecclesiastes 3:7.

Be Humble. I think many people are unaware that they are prideful, even pastors. Even when God keeps exposing them, they refuse to humble themselves and just keep falling more and more into the rabbit hole. Do you think it’s by mistake so many pastors are deceivers, and blinded of the things of God but embrace everything worldly? I believe this is a way God is exposing them, that they are really ministers of Satan and not his, “And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works,” 2 Corinthians 11:14-15. Pay attention to how they talk, live and behave they are not hiding their pride in themselves. It’s right in front of you. Humility will play a part in being able to receive from God, spiritual gifts such as, revelation, and prophecy that comes from him, and not some false sign. Micah 6:8; Colossians 3:12; 2 Chronicles 7:14; James 3:13; Psalms 25:9.

I encourage you to seek God for understanding with all things. I personally believe the Holy Spirit is the best teacher. While people can guide you, enlighten you, only God can truly confirm and reveal what’s real or false.  Draw Closer to God.
