The thought of being “set apart” for many in the world is unthinkable for them, to not engage with others, stay away from worldly people that blatant work against God, how could someone ask them to do such a thing. Well, being set apart does not mean you go live in a cave and ignore the world and people around you. Being set apart can be spiritually, mentally, and physically. One may choose to be set apart by moving away from larger cities and live somewhere more secluded where they can protect their sanity and continue on their beliefs, we see this all the time. Another may choose to be set apart by homeschooling and end the indoctrination of the world’s educational system. There are many ways to be set apart, and it is one of the things God instructed us to do, “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Messiah with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.” Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.” “I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the Lord Almighty.” 2 Corinthians 6:14-16. A quick note here on the word “unbelievers” Many call themselves “believer” but don’t really believe in God or the bible or they believe in God and not the Bible or choose what parts of the bible they like and focus on that only, that person can be considered an unbeliever, this is where discernment is key. A genuine believer knows and believes in God- Yahweh and believes the bible from the Old to the New Testament. So it’s easy to be yoked with unbelievers even those who profess to be “believers.” That’s why its’ important to spiritually grow, so you can properly discern people. In any case, God wants us as believers to be set apart.
How can we be set apart when we live in the world? It’s simple, choose God’s ways vs. the World’s ways. Romans 12:1-2 tells us how “ I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Keywords here: Do not conform to this world. Do not conform to the actions the people in this world take. Do not conform to accepting positions, contracts, deals that cause you to sell your soul and draw away from God. Do not conform to the pattern of thinking this world has, that anything goes. Another key here be transformed by renewing your mind, that is where the Bible comes in. You can’t be transformed to what God desires of you if you don’t know or read his word. The bible instructs on exactly how to live, what not to accept as we live in this world and you have to take time to know your bible to do this. You can’t renew your mind without God’s word which leads to God’s way.
It’s important and even more so these days to be set apart because we are under a strong delusion, 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12, we are in training to accept things of the world that goes against God, Revelation 13. Many are accepting of this delusion and training and they will happily take and accept what the world has prepared for them and many will drag you with them if you don’t wake up from your slumber sleep. There is a shifting taken place in the world and God is allowing it to separate the sheep from the goats, the wheat from the tares, Matthew 25:31-46; Matthew 13:24-43. You don’t want to be on the wrong side and many will be because of their love for this world, their love for ungodly entertainment, their love for celebrities, their love for money, and things, their continued trust in false prophets, pastors, and preachers, their inability to focus on God, their acceptance and tolerance of sin. These people will find it very difficult to turn their backs against the world and the people of the world. Just as Lot’s wife could not keep moving forward towards the kingdom and looked back, Genesis 19, many will not only look back but stay and be destroyed with the world. I hope you are coming to an understanding of how important it is to be set apart and choose God above all else, that is where you will be protected even unto the end, God promises he will protect those who endure till the end. Some may think they can pretend their way right into Heaven, but what a hard lesson they will learn when their time is up. Choose today, who you will serve, tomorrow is not promised, Joshua 24:14-15.
